Commissioning of Manufacturing Plant in Kenya
In January 2019, Space and Style embarked on its most ambiguous strategic business undertaking with the commissioning of its own stone-coated roofing manufacturing plant based in Juja, Kiambu County. The implementation of this project was the culmination of efforts spanning over a five-year period since the idea of local manufacturing was rooted in 2012.
The Juja factory which is now fully operational, manufactures stone coated metal roofing shingles and accessories under our new Kenyan brand ASILI. The choice of the name ASILI symbolizes our desire to provide Kenyans with original, genuine and authentic products, consistent with our mission to offer globally competitive products. Our local manufacturing initiative is well aligned to the ‘Buy Kenya Build Kenya’ Government initiative.
This range of products offers unique technical solutions that will improve the efficiency of our drainage and plumbing systems. This factory project has placed Space and Style on the forefront in responding to the Government’s Big 4 Agenda under both the Manufacturing and Affordable Housing Pillars. The Asili Roofing solution has rapidly gained traction in the market with strong customer appeal and support from various Government agencies, including through the extension of incentives afforded to local industries.
Manufacturing in Kenya
As a key player in the building and construction industry in Kenya, we place quality at the heart of all our strategic decisions. At our factory in Juja we only use highly advanced technology and automated production on equipment to manufacture our Asili and Frametech products.
Our factory team consists of highly skilled managerial and technical staff trained by both local and international experts.
A Great Milestone
The commissioning of Asili roofing tiles marked the realization of Space an long-term vision to take tighter control over its product value-chains which
was always threatened by importation bottlenecks. The longer-term vision is to localize the bulk of raw material supply by working with localproducers to meet our needs. To this end, discussions are in progress with local steel coil suppliers to customize production to suit Space and Style’s requirements. Discussions with prospective suppliers of other inputs are also in progress
Our roofing and frametech steel products have been approved by the Kenya Bureau of Standards and awarded the Standardization Mark in accordance with Kenyan standards We are also partnering with Brand Kenya to create visibility for Made in Kenya initiative by branding our offices with the “made in Kenya” mark. In addition, key members of our management team serve on KEBS technical committees in order to keep the company actively involved in standards setting.
